Toyota is providing a much needed solution for a gas pedal issue on nearly four million Toyota and Lexus models. This corrects the problem of gas pedals getting stuck on floor mats. Huge problem – huge solution. Models affected include the following: 2007 to 2010 Camry 2005 to 2010 Avalon 2004 to 2009 Prius 2005 to 2010 Tacoma 2007 to 2010 Tundra 2007 to 2010 ES350 2006 to 2010 IS250 2006 to 2010 IS 350 Details include: Toyota is reshaping the accelerator pedal to address the risk of floor mat entrapment, even when an older-design all-weather floor mat or other inappropriate floor mat is improperly attached, or is placed on top of another floor mat. Existing All-weather floor mats will receive replacement driver-and front passenger-side all-weather floor mats. Toyota will also install a brake override system in specific Camry, Avalon and Lexus ES350, IS350 and IS250 models as well. (If the gas pedal & brake are pressed at the same time – power to the engine will be cut) Owners of the ES350, Camry and Avalon will be notified by the end of the year with more details about these changes; additional vehicle lines needing solutions will be put in place next year. Toyota’s comments: “In the meantime, owners of the involved vehicles are asked to take out any removable driver’s floor mat and not replace it with any other floor mat until they are notified of the vehicle-based remedy, as notified in the consumer safety advisory and the interim notice,” officials noted…
