The Chrysler-Ghia Turbine Cars were the GM EV-1s of the early 1960s: expensive applications of future technology that were intended for eventual consumer use, but were ultimately destroyed to prevent them from ending up in the hands of enthusiasts. Chrysler destroyed 46 of the 55 Chrysler-Ghia Turbine Cars, under the pretense of avoiding import tariffs.
