RUF Automobile GmbH, maker of high-performance vehicles located in the small Bavarian town of Pfaffenhausen, has created what it says is the very first electrically driven SUV based on the Porsche Cayenne. The Stormster is driven by a Siemens electric motor generating 367 horsepower and reaching 60 miles per hour from a standstill in 10 seconds. The top speed of the 5,874-pound vehicle is 90 miles per hour, the manufacturer says, and has a range of 120 miles between charges. The lithium-ion battery pack is supplied by Li-Tec, one of the first manufacturers of lithium-ion battery cells in Europe designed for the automobile industry using ceramic storage technology. Hankook developed the winter tires for the all-wheel-drive Stormster, which is fitted to RUF 5-spoke lightweight wheels mated to 22-inch tires.
