Mercedes-Benz Moving to Downsize Gas and Diesel Engines for Fuel Economy

Luxury Automaker Also Plans Diesel-Electric E-Class Hybrid Like most automakers, Mercedes-Benz likes to dribble its news out rather than release it all in a flood – more headlines that way. Thus after showing off its new fuel-cell electric F-Cell hatchback (limited production for ongoing road tests) and soon-to-be-launched Smart EV in Monaco last week, the company announced in Abu Dhabi this week that it will be stressing downsized, turbocharged gas and diesel engines in the future and that it has an E-Class diesel-electric hybrid on its production schedule for 2012 or so.
