Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. announced today that it has signed a wide-ranging global cooperation agreement with Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls Inc. Geely, which is developing electric vehicles and is the preferred bidder for Ford's Volvo unit, said the partnership will cover auto parts, including vehicle seats, and new energy. Financial details were not provided and specifics regarding the auto parts were lacking. But The Wall Street Journal reported that “a person familiar with the matter said the cooperation will definitely involve batteries but details are still being discussed.” Johnson Controls has a partnership with France's Saft Groupe SA to make lithium-ion batteries for hybrid and plug-in electric vehicles.
