Honda Motor Co. defied expectations by reporting a small profit for the quarter ended June 30, while Nissan posted a smaller-than-expected loss and Daimler AG lost $1.5 billion, partly reflecting about $540 million in expenses from a decision to relinquish its 19.9% stake in Chrysler Group LLC.
