Daimler Delivers First Smart ForTwo ED Battery-Electric Vehicles to Customers

Daimler delivered the first of possibly millions of zero-emissions Smart ForTwo ED electric vehicles to customers today. The very first owners of the electric Smart two-seaters are Rolf Bauer, an artist and owner of a film-dubbing studio, and Lutz Tamaschke, owner of a dental technology company. Both are German residents who have owned non-electric ForTwos for years and sworn by them. The first two ForTwo EDs (electric drives) were handed over in Berlin by Thomas Weber, a member of the board of management of Daimler AG who is responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, and Harald Schuff, executive vice president of Mercedes-Benz Sales and Marketing Organization. The plug-in electric car will be delivered to selected fleet, business and private customers around the world as part of various “e-mobility” projects conducted by Daimler. Key objective of these projects is to evaluate customer behavior and specific support services. In addition to Germany, the electric Smart will also be made available to customers in Italy, Spain, England, France, Switzerland, as well as the U.S. and Canada. Daimler says the ForTwo ED is still a ForTwo without any compromises in terms of safety, comfort and space.
