I live in the Detroit, MI area; in fact … I live in Dearborn. Home of the Ford Motor Company. Everyone on my block drives a Ford. Well… almost everyone. With huge layoffs occurring every 6-months or so, it begs the question — how is this automaker staying afloat?
The answer - a high profile luxury coupe.
Even with all of the financial difficulties Ford Motor Company has found itself in. Ford continues to look toward the future with the power of design. Hence, the inception of the Lincoln MKS concept car designed for a younger generation car buyer.
Ford Car Designer Karl Zeeso had the following to say about the Lincoln MKR:
“The MKR is an exciting new vehicle because it will bring a sense of sporty sex appeal to what was once considered an ‘old-timers’ vehicle. Built on a stretched Mustang platform it promises to be a flagship for the new Lincoln DNA, which will appeal to a more youthful buyer. This Lincoln model is fuel-efficient, sexy, and responsive.”
According to car and driver The styling elements of the MKR are so strong that they will stay relevant even in filtered production form. The twin-turbocharged V-6 is based on Ford’s 3.5-liter Duratec engine, now in production in various Ford products including the MKZ small luxury sedan and MKX crossover. If the parts underneath are only a short step away from reality, it’s easy to believe the styling could make it, too.
Consumer reports states: The long hood, flowing, sinuous body lines, and big wedge-shaped chrome grille give it the elegance a luxury cruiser should have. This second encounter serves as a reminder of a secondary benefit of new-car shows, the ability for manufacturers to introduce concepts, design, and technology, and for consumers to glimpse the possible cars of tomorrow.
