Spring into a Convertible – The Pontiac Solstice vs. Saturn Sky

by Jeff on October 17, 2007

Whether we are talking about the sun or sky, we can’t help but think of summer. As we are thawing from frosty single digit temperatures, and rising from our winter slumber, hot cars are on the mind and back on the road.

Think convertible, think roadster think of the new 2007 Saturn Sky. Debuting this spring, it’s a more stylish and more expensive (by about $3,000) version of the Pontiac Solstice - both manufactured by GM. With differing design cues, the Sky showcases an edgy more aggressive look while its sister, the Solstice, offers a round and curvy exterior

As Halo vehicles for Saturn and Pontiac, these convertibles were made to be the Hawaiian shirt in a line-up of grey suited automobiles designed to compete with the likes of the benchmark Mazda Miata. The base-model Solstice nearly ousted the Mazda MX-5 Miata in a comparison test, and the GXP model took rank over the former ruler. [click to continue...]

The 2008 Toyota Yaris

When I started looking for vehicles priced under $20,000 I came across the Toyota Yaris, which is winning awards across the board. Priced at $15,999 the Yaris is reportedly fun, funky, and scores high in safety ratings.

But what kind of name is Yaris? With a little research I found out:

The manufacturer states:

Yaris stems from a goddess in Greek mythology, named Charis, who was a symbol of beauty and elegance. We used the German expression of agreement, “ya”, because we think this new name best symbolizes the car’s broad appeal in styling and is representative of Toyota’s next generation of global cars.

Incidentally - Toyota car names usually have some kind of meaning… Avalon is a mythical place, Corolla is part of a flower, Camry comes from the Japanese word for crown, etc. Another bit of useless trivia, but it is fun! [click to continue...]

Hot New Audi R8

by Jeff on October 9, 2007

German Vehicles…

Americans love their look; they’re engineering, and let’s not forget their speed! Made for the German Audubon - these cars have become flagships of American Opulence. Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi… they are holler’n luxury. Although for Audi it has taken some time to reach this level of status.

My parents had an Audi 5000 turbo when I was growing up, it looked like a box. This was in the early 1990’s, and that thing was in the shop more than it was on the road. So much for German engineering! They still have not had the courage to go Audi again.

Maybe if they read some more recent stats their minds would change. According to the automaker, which sold over 829,000 in 2005, sales were up more than 8 percent over the last year’s figures. The luxury brand plans to allocate over $15 billion through 2011.

There is no doubt about it Audi has evolved…take the new Audi R8 for instance, this thing is hot!

According to left lane news, Audi has unveiled the 2008 R8 — its first ever mid-engine sports cars. [click to continue...]
