Best Cars For Worst Drivers

by Jeff on October 15, 2007

My sister lives in the city of Chicago. Smack downtown near Michigan Ave. and Lakeshore drive. Where she often is spotted driving her little silver VW Jetta. Now even though Erin has been driving for over 10-years, city driving is just too much for this girl.

Too much chaos, too much aggressivenes, and worse - she hesitates like a Grandma. Bless her, she has been in her fair share of fender benders.

I am sure we all know someone like this. A friend, a family member, an idiot on the road… you see them and you see big flashing lights blinking - DANGER, DANGER, DANGER. If this is you, or one of your loved ones, and you are tired of riding around teeth clenched and white knuckled. There could be a viable solution. You can find a car that will be the simplist to use, easiest to handle, and safest to drive.

Doing some research, I was surprised about the lack of information on the subject. (We better get Click and Clack on it pronto!) Maybe there is some sensitivity about being a bad driver…

The closet info. I could get related to the subject was on what the safest cars are for teens. Being the least experienced they should be the worst; they have an excuse.

According to an article I found on forbes.com the best cars for teens are:

1) The Ford Fusion

2) Honda Civic

3) Hyundai Sonata Sedan

All of these vehicles are in the price range that a teenager is more likely to be able to afford, they all recieved 5-star ratings for safety, and 5-stars on their auto-avoidance capability. The worst was the Toyota Corrola - stay away.

If your bad driver feels an entry-level vehicle is below his/her “means” remind them that he could be back in drivers ed real soon so at least they’d be prepared! If you want to spend big bucks, do your homework before you buy. Especially before you get behind the wheel or an SUV.

Incidently, are VW Jetta drivers supposed to be the worst? Find out here at cars.com.
